What to expect from the RESTORE Scar Therapy Practitioner course?

We have updated the course program for 2025 courses. It is possible there may be a few small adjustments to the content shown as we complete our final review.

The Scar Therapy Practitioner is a blended course, providing first class education in manual treatment for clients after ANY surgery or injury that creates scar tissue, fibrosis or adhesions. The Scar Therapy Practitioner is at the heart of our scar therapy education program.

The Scar Therapy Practitioner covers all the basic information and a diverse range of techniques for scar tissue treatment. Our flexible course program is designed to layer information. Ideally complete this course in conjunction with Understanding Scars: Advanced online theory. Together these courses layer detailed theory and focussed practical skills to leave you with a comprehensive and wide range of knowledge and modalities to bring results when treating people with scars. Courses are designed to be taken in any order with our flexible learning structure, or can be used as stand-alone training, depending on your needs.

Course information

On completion of this course therapists will be able to:

1. Assess and describe a scar after any type of open or keyhole surgery or a scar from a traumatic injury (including C-Section, oncology, orthopaedic surgery, burn, hand trauma, cosmetic surgery and other specialties).

2. Evaluate and select scar massage and scar stretch techniques appropriate for the type, location and age of the scar with consideration for the treatment objectives.

3. Treat clients with facial surgery or injury using intra-oral techniques in addition to external scar massage.

4. Use NPT (negative pressure treatment or cupping) for scar tissue.

5. List contraindications to scar massage and the specific contraindications for NPT and inter-oral scar treatment.

6. Prescribe a client with self-scar care including topical products and self-scar massage or cupping for home use.

7. Describe the key benefits of scar therapy for clients with problematic scar tissue, underlying fibrosis and internal adhesions after a surgery or injury and the optimal time to commence with treatment.

8. Describe how kinesiology tape can influence mechanical forces and scar tissue development.

This course is perfect for all therapists, including clinical and sports massage therapists, physiotherapists, lymphoedema therapists, osteopaths and chiropractors working with people after injury recovery. If you are hospital based nurse specialist or occupation therapist who would be using scar massage within your clinical role, you will also find this course beneficial.

This comprehensive training program is designed to be delivered over 8+ weeks. Further details:

  • Commence with pre-course self paced online theory (3-5 hours in bite-size sections depending on your learning style)
  • Live Zoom lesson: Join your tutor and group one week before your in-person class (90 minutes)

We include a variety of video demonstrations to support your practical skills development:

Previous attendees comments from this course:

“Without a doubt the best CPD course I have ever done (in 8 years). Emma’s knowledge & expertise is clear & the training is pitched perfectly to engage & enthuse. Having the clinical sessions gives so much confidence & the results from the techniques we were shown was amazing.”

“Emma encouraged us all, from varied therapy backgrounds, to blend her techniques into our everyday practice which was such a refreshing approach. I will certainly train again with Emma & strongly encourage anyone interested in this fascinating area to attend this course.”

“Great training, it was good to get plenty of hands on experience to boost confidence in the skills.”

“Loved every second of this course. Claire (Stone) made it so much fun.”

“All aspects of the therapy were explained and demonstrated clearly and enthusiastically by Emma.  I enjoyed the fact that we were able to practice on each other within the group as well as on members of the public. This meant that we were able to experience a wider range of scars over the duration of the course.”
