At Restore Therapy, our mission extends into the heart of the community and we continue to organize Restore Scar Therapy volunteers to support charitable events. This provides an opportunity for therapists trained with us as well as giving treatment to people who may find it hard to access scar tissue treatments.

In September 2024, we had the privilege of collaborating again with Dan’s Fund for Burns, a UK-based charity dedicated to supporting adult burn survivors at their retreat event. Founded by Polly Brooks MBE, herself a burn survivor from the 2002 Bali bombings, the charity offers financial, emotional, and physical assistance to those affected by burn injuries.

During their burn survivor retreat, seven therapists who had previously trained with Restore Therapy volunteered their time and expertise. Throughout the day they provided 26 complimentary scar massage treatments. These sessions aimed not only to improve the physical appearance of scars but also to enhance emotional well-being with gentle touch – reinforcing our commitment to giving back to the community, one treatment at a time.

Helping people living with significant burn injury

We thank our volunteers, each therapist brought their unique skills and heartfelt dedication to the event, creating personalised treatment experiences that resonated deeply with both the recipients and the therapists themselves.

“Thank you for giving me one of the most humbling and wonderful experiences in my life that I have ever had the opportunity to ever be involved in.”
— Emma Louth, Volunteer Therapist

Emma’s sentiments were echoed by her colleagues:

“I didn’t expect to walk away feeling like I gained more than I gave. These survivors taught me so much about courage and grace.”
— Sarah Wilkins Volunteer Therapist

“It reminded me why I became a therapist in the first place. This was healing in every sense of the word.”
— Annie Cooper, Volunteer Therapist

“I am feeling so grateful for this opportunity”

  • Jenny Wright, Volunteer Therapist

“A real privilege thank-you so much for this wonderful opportunity”

  • Leah Dalby, Volunteer Therapist

“Seeing the smiles, feeling the gratitude, and knowing we made even a small difference—there’s nothing like it.”
— Sian Sheppard, Volunteer Therapist

Real Feedback, Real Results

The treatments offered were more than just relaxing—they brought tangible results and lasting benefits for the individuals who received them.

“Increase in range of motion, softer skin and better skin tone. Very happy.”
— Client treated by Sarah

“Worked on both feet, felt much smoother and less bumpy.”
— Client treated by Emma

These outcomes are a powerful reminder that scar therapy can significantly support recovery for burn survivors.

The Team Behind the Healing

Organised from Restore Therapy HQ by Emma Holly, the volunteer team included therapists who had completed an in-person Restore Scar Therapy course. Led Laura Hathaway from The Scar Wand, whose organizational skills ensured we had everything onsite we needed. Alongside Laura, therapists Emma Louth, Sarah Wilkins, Annie Cooper, Sian Sheppard, Leah Dalby and Jenny Wright gave their time, energy, and hearts to make a real difference in the lives of those they treated. Travelling from across England to join the event in Newcastle.

Collaborating to improve lives

Dan’s Fund for Burns continues to make a significant impact in the lives of burn survivors by providing essential support and resources. For those seeking assistance, the charity offers a range of services, including financial aid, emotional support, and access to specialised equipment. More information can be found on their Get Help page.

At Restore Therapy, we are very happy to connect with such an amazing charity, led by inspirational women. We have more events planned to support Dan’s Fund in future. We remain committed to charitable work and are always interested if anyone has events where trained scar therapists can get involved and provide treatments.
