At Restore Therapy, we believe that scars go far beyond the physical. That’s why community connection, education, and open conversations are such an important part of recovery. We are very proud of therapists Dana Allen and Emily Wade who supported Unity Ribbons – a wellness and awareness fundraising event held at the Harpenden Trust Halls, celebrating support through and beyond cancer.
The day brought together people living with and beyond cancer, their families, and local practitioners – all focused on promoting wellbeing, understanding, and hope.
Dana and Emily presented an informative session on scar therapy, exploring topics such as wound healing, common post-surgical challenges, and the many benefits of specialist scar treatment. They also demonstrated self-care massage techniques and shared practical advice on products that support scar healing and comfort. One kind audience member even volunteered for a live demonstration, helping to show just how gentle and effective scar therapy can be.
The value of community talks
Engaging with community groups like those at Unity Ribbons helps raise awareness about an often-overlooked aspect of recovery. Many people are surprised to learn that scars can sometimes contribute to pain, tightness, restricted movement, or sensitivity – even long after the initial healing period. These symptoms are often accepted as normal, but with the right approach, they can often be eased significantly.
Talking openly in a supportive environment helps to reduce stigma and isolation. For someone who finds their scar difficult to discuss or feels unsure where to turn, meeting a friendly, understanding therapist can be a huge relief. Events like this create safe spaces to learn, ask questions, and realise that support is available – and that their experiences are completely valid.
A day of wellness and connection
The Unity Ribbons event offered a beautiful mix of wellbeing workshops, from breathwork to sound baths and inspiring talks on nutrition, scar therapy, and hypnotherapy. Visitors also enjoyed exploring stalls from local therapists and wellness businesses.
All proceeds from the event went to The Harpenden Trust, supporting the Ribbon Cancer Support Group – a local lifeline for those affected by cancer. Run by volunteers with lived experience and a dedicated oncology nurse, the group offers compassionate, community-based support for people living with and beyond cancer.
If you’re in Harpenden or the surrounding area and would like advice or support with your scar, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with Emily or Dana. They’re always happy to offer guidance, reassurance, and professional care to help you feel more comfortable and confident in your recovery.
