At Restore Therapy, we’re always proud to shine a light on those giving back to the community through education, support, and care. In this blog, we’re celebrating Jane Rackham, who recently shared her knowledge and passion for Scar Therapy volunteering her time to resent at a local support group evening.

Jane said:

“We had a wonderful evening presenting an informal talk all about Scar Therapy to members of the Gloustershire Endometriosis UK support group. run by the wonderful Hanna and volunteers. A great interactive evening.”

The session gave members of the group the chance to learn more about how scar therapy may support post-surgical recovery and opened-up conversations around personal journeys with endometriosis and related surgical procedures. Surgery for endemetrosis is commonly a laprascopic procedure which is less invasive than open surgery, but studies show up to 51% or women would have to undergo more than one surgical procedure. Multiple surgeries increase the risk of scar and adhesion related symptoms.

What is Endometriosis?

Endometriosis is a long-term condition where tissue similar to the lining of the womb grows in other places, such as the ovaries and fallopian tubes. It can cause chronic pain, fatigue. it has been shown that 35–50% of infertile women have associated endometriosis.

Scar adhesions often develop for women with endometriosis, even without surgery as inflammation linked to his condition leads to adhesion formation. Scar massage to the affected area can relieve symptoms, though scar massage is not a cure. Scar self-care and professional scar therapy after surgery should be beneficial to support recovery and minimise common symptoms such as pain, tightness, pulling, itching and raised keloid or hypertrophic scars.

🔍 Quick fact: It’s estimated that 1 in 10 women and those assigned female at birth in the UK live with endometriosis.
