Full course details
Perfect for healthcare professionals working in cancer care:
1. Oncology scar massage
Learn evidence informed approaches to gentle but effective scar massage. Taught with a holistic approach to maximise results to aid surgery recovery, reduce pain and improve sensation and range of movement.
2. Scar stretch
Stretching is an important component in oncology surgery recovery. Stiffness and fibrosis caused by the operations and radiotherapy leave tight areas that respond well to the Restore stretch techniques.
3. Active and passive techniques for Axillary Web Syndrome (AWS/cording)
Shoulder mobility is often compromised after cancer surgery. Axillary web syndrome (also known as cording) is a common complication and this course covers a variety of options for manual treatment protocols.
4. Breathing assessment and techniques to promote healthy diaphragm function
Diaphragmatic breathing is key to help mobilise and stretch the ribs, massage the abdominal organs, promote lymph flow, sleep and aid recovery. We will show you some gentle techniques to use to aid diaphragmatic breathing in your clients.
5. Mobilisations for the ribs, chest and shoulder
Scar tissue can be stiff, tight and adhered to the chest wall. This creates fascial restrictions and stiffness through our collagen matrix. Use gentle mobilising movements to stretch the soft tissue around the ribs.
6. Oil massage techniques for the chest and ribs
Surgery after breast or abdominal surgery can impact the ribs, with stiffness and adherent tissue onto the chest wall. Learn a simple chest and ribs massage routine to ease tightness in the pectorals, intercostals and over the ribs.
7. Positioning the client in supine and side-lying
By adapting your client position you will master ways to work deeply, but gently into the tissues to promote soft, supple scars. Learn options for supine and side-lying positions for your head and neck, breast and abdominal surgery clients.
8. Treatment considerations for clients with a stoma
Adaptions in your treatment duration and pressure may need to be varied for clients with a stoma. Learn important considerations for this and other common concerns.
Theory is delivered in video lessons with interactive multiple choice quiz questions. To make study easy to fit around your busy lifestyle, our lesson videos are kept to under 15 minutes so you can fit study into a lunch break or between appointments.
