Burn Scar Massage Charity Day
On a sunny Saturday in London, Restore Therapy joined forces with Dan’s Fund for Burns to host a special charity event dedicated to supporting burn survivors through expert therapy, compassionate care, and community connection. This was the first event of its kind, bringing together volunteer therapists who had completed the Restore Therapy Scar Practitioner course and burn survivors for a day exclusively for providing free scar massage treatments.
On hand were the team behind Dan’s Fund for Burns, Polly Brooks MBE and Jennifer Fitt. From Restore Therapy, founder Emma Holly, Global training partner Sona Dowds and UK Scar Therapy Practitioner tutor, Claire Stone.
Therapist volunteers share their experience
“The venue was thoughtfully prepared — a welcoming space with refreshments, tea and coffee, and delicious homemade cakes, where attendees could chat and share stories before and after their treatments. Two information tables were set up: one highlighting the incredible work of Dan’s Fund for Burns, and a Katie Holloway who volunteered to offer her services in skin camouflage.
Upstairs, two peaceful therapy rooms were ready for sessions, each fitted with comfortable treatment beds. The day ran smoothly, thanks to a well-planned structure — from the pre-event briefing to the post-event debrief — which created a supportive and collaborative environment for the therapists.
I worked as part of a pair treating a lovely gentleman whose burns were just over a year old. After his session, he stood up from the therapy bed with a huge smile, saying he could feel such a difference — his legs felt less tight and more comfortable.
Another lady, whose burn scars were more than 30 years old, shared that she hadn’t realised how restricted her skin had felt until after receiving treatment. She was amazed that something could still be done after all these years.
It was humbling to hear each person’s story of recovery. We weren’t just providing treatment; we were connecting on a human level, creating a safe space where people could share and be heard. Between sessions, the atmosphere was warm and full of conversation, and one of the gentlemen we’d treated even returned to proudly show his skin camouflage application — it looked amazing!
Scar therapy plays a vital role in recovery from physical trauma, and this day showed how small changes in tissue can make a big difference in comfort, movement, and confidence. Seeing people leave smiling was a powerful reminder of the impact we can make together.”
“I had the privilege of volunteering at the Dan’s Fund for Burns charity event, working alongside a talented and caring team of therapists. The thoughtful organisation and team support made the day feel safe and collaborative for everyone involved.
One story that stayed with me was a woman in her 60s who sustained burn injuries as a child and more recently underwent surgery following a mastectomy and reconstruction. She carried both physical and emotional scars and arrived feeling tense but open. By the end of our session, she felt noticeably more at ease and regained some shoulder mobility. Witnessing that shift — and her gratitude — was a moving reminder of why this work matters.
Treating burn scars was a valuable learning experience, as they differ from the surgical and oncology scars I often see. Their texture, adhesions, and tissue response require subtle adaptations. This event deepened my understanding and reinforced the importance of tailoring treatment to each person’s story.
I left feeling humbled and inspired, with renewed commitment to scar therapy as both a clinical and compassionate practice — one that supports not just physical function, but also confidence and emotional wellbeing.”

Treatments brining benefit to new and historic scars
We had some incredible responses to therapy, many people were happy to share their thoughts…
“It’s surprised me how much difference can be achieved so quickly” said one person who had a treatment
“ I feel very relaxed and my scar areas are feeling less stiff. It was really interesting to see how the skin changed colour” said another.
“The scars feel softer and less dry. I can feel a better arrangement movement and less tension in my back and neck. Great care was taken through throughout“ was some more feedback
“I now feel quite connected to my arms and my arms feel quite alive and soft and more supple. Thanks so much.” Said another person
“I feel great and can really feel something has been unstuck. My back is much smoother and lighter. My legs also feel really softer.”
Reflections from the day
The event was more than a series of treatments — it was a day of shared stories, learning, and meaningful connection. Each person brought their unique journey, and each therapist brought skill, empathy, and care. Together, they created a space of healing, understanding, and hope.
Through the support of Dan’s Fund for Burns, Restore Therapy, and our dedicated volunteers, the day highlighted how scar therapy can transform not only how a scar feels, but how a person feels within their own skin.
Our Pledge
Restore Therapy is proud to partner with organisations like Dan’s Fund for Burns to make events like this possible. We look forward to creating more opportunities to reach people affected by scars, support their healing journey, and raise awareness of the life-changing benefits of scar therapy as part of Our Pledge.
